Community Spirit Success
Community spirit has prevailed for a group of residents on Middleton Road who were being targeted by a gang of yobs. They decided to take action and, with the help of PCSO Christine Gee, they set up a Home Watch scheme to log the incidents of anti-social behaviour. As a result Chadderton Neighbourhood Policing Unit mounted additional patrols and Local Beat Officer PC Ian Hope and Oldham Council anti-social behaviour officer Mark Hitchen issued warning letters to the offenders. Subsequent action taken included the seizure of two off-road bikes. Realising they were being monitored, the anti-social behaviour declined dramatically.
The new Home Watch co-ordinator Sandra Whelan said: Everybody was suffering but no-one was reporting it to the police. It was only when we all started to work together that we realised we could do something about it. Its nice to know that community spirit is alive and kicking and it feels like my neighbours are now my friends. Christine has been brilliant and proved that PCSOs really are a vital link between the community and the police.

Road Safety and Traffic Improvements
Cllr Colin McLaren has been liaising with the Highways Dept on our behalf and arranged a residents consultation, which was held at Mills Hill School on Wednesday 10th November 4pm 6pm. Oldham Highways Dept put forward proposals for a signing and lining scheme for the main road on Firwood Park, Baytree Avenue and Laurel Avenue. All suggestions put forward at the meeting will now be taken into consideration when designing a final balanced scheme. It is still possible to comment on the proposals by contacting Unity Partnership Traffic Management Section on 0161 770 3000. It is hoped that the improvements will be implemented as soon as is practically possible.
Traffic Issues around Mills Hill School
We are very pleased to be able to report that as a follow up to our traffic survey around Mills Hill School in July, Greater Manchester Police carried out enforcement action against illegal parking outside Mills Hill School during October.

Thanks are due to our local councillors, Eileen Hulme and John Hudson, who have generously donated funds to the association.
